Stephen Auten is from Normal, IL. He is 22 years old and has three older sisters. He was homeschooled from kindergarten through high school. He graduated from the International Business College in Indianapolis, IN with an associate’s degree in computer networking. He loves to play frisbee golf, ultimate frisbee, all kinds of board games, and is a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan. Stephen’s pride and joy is his fedora collection. He got his first fedora when he was just 13, and since then has accumulated 70…so far.
Stephen first saw clogging on a family vacation at Silver Dollar City when he was 6 years old. A couple years later, he and his sister had the opportunity to take beginner lessons with the Sugar Creek Cloggers in Bloomington, IL. It didn’t take long for him to realize he had found his life’s passion.
When Stephen was ten, he began competing. He has won numerous regional competitions, and four national championships. He has been selected for the NCHC All Star Team and the CCA All Pro Team, and was chosen for the ALLTHAT Challenge in 2013 and 2014. He has served on the CCA Youth Leadership Council. He has had the privilege to perform at the Carolina Opry in Myrtle Beach, SC as ALLTHAT, and at Silver Dollar City with the Championship Cloggers. He has also enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of Brian Bon’s PowerHouse Percussive Dance team.
Stephen loves being able to share his passion of clogging and travel around the country to teach at numerous workshops. He has taught multiple times at the Illinois Prairie Clogging Association’s annual workshop in Normal, Illinois, and several times at the World of Clogging in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has also taught at the Fontana Jamboree, Encore, and the C.L.O.G. National Convention.
Stephen currently performs as a clogger at the Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud in Pigeon Forge, TN. When he took that first lesson back in 2006 he never dreamt clogging would have such a huge impact on his life. He is so grateful for all the opportunities clogging has provided, and for all the awesome people he has met and the special friendships he has developed all over the country.
